We're leaving Monday for our three week trip, and planning to tie the knot along the way.

Given the season and weather and various 'paperwork' delays, we have decided to go west rather than north.

I announced the plans to all family via email (although most knew already) with the dates, destnations, etc.

Everyone's ecstatic and congratulatory... except dad, who is disappointed that we are not including family in the actual event, and particularly that my son is not included in the actual event. Thinks my boy feels left out (which admittedly is a possibility).

Bleh.

I wonder if a reception on our return would fill the bill. Something we'd thought about and talked about, but never actually got around to planning.

Party by thunderbee (4.00 / 4) #6 Wed Nov 14, 2007 at 11:34:08 AM EST
It's a great way to get everyone happy, without the hassle of an everyone-comes-to-the-wedding event.

Since the wedding is done already, there is little pressure on anyone, people are more relaxed, and everyone has a good time. Not to mention the fact that casual wear is easier on everyone.

Did this ourselves, would do it again ;)

my mom threw us a party about a month later, and that made everybody happy.  we had a slideshow going on the computer of wedding and honeymoon photos.

Please do include your boy somehow. It'll most likely mean a lot to him. Best of luck.

Maybe you could have him take some role in some small ceremonial part of your do / reception thing for when you get back. Or something.

Hell, I don't know. But I do agree with vlf.

And congratulations anyway.

that I've talked to, anyway, would rather just get hitched and be done with it.  The wedding is for your family, not you.  Since both of you have already been there, done that, you're perfectly correct I think to pull a McClocky or some variant thereof.

If our progress turned out like we originally thought it would, we would have been messaging you... as it is, we only made it to Beaumont on Tuesday night (mega delays on I-10 west of Baton Rouge), and blasted on past Houston & Dallas today.

Dallas drivers are horrible. Or maybe it's just that holiday rush. I thought I was dead at least twice. No such issues in Houston, though. Y'all are nice.

Etc, happy returns.

To echo everyone else, the party would make the families happy, plus everyone gets to know each other which is probably better than the in-laws not knowing and/or disliking each other. :)

A fast fun wedding beats the long ceremony every time. Plus you have extra dough to spend on the honeymoon.
